A midnight drive in northeast Albuquerque changed a local family forever.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – “He’s been shot four times and that’s all we have. That’s all we know,” said Carol Clyda Archuleta, Jose Gonzalez’s mother.

Archuleta never imagined she would have to deal with the loss of her son.

“The loss of a child is the worst thing a person can ever go through. “You shall not bury your children,” Archuleta said.

She says her son Jose Gonzalez died in a shooting in northeast Albuquerque.

“His stepson may have given someone a dirty look because he was sitting in the back seat. And that the car next to him just decided to start shooting,” Archuleta said.

It happened just after midnight on September 15th near Eubank and Copper.

“My whole world collapsed that night. And I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put it back together,” Archuleta said.

Weeks later, Albuquerque police issued a Crime Stoppers alert saying investigators believe a dark-colored Chrysler 300 was involved. But police have made no arrests.

“Any car, is that them? Is that you? Could that be them? It drives me crazy,” Archuleta said.

Gonzalez's niece says she won't be able to grieve until she has answers.

“I can't even go to the store and go to Albuquerque and just look at someone and I'm like, 'What did you do today?'” said Destyne Carranza, Gonzalez's niece.

She says she viewed Gonzalez as more of a father than an uncle.

“He was everything to me,” Carranza said.

He also had seven children of his own, five biological and two stepchildren. His oldest is 16 and his youngest is 2 years old.

“He didn’t just care about his children. He took care of his entire family, from me to his sisters to his nieces to his, you know, his children. So it’s a big loss,” Archuleta said.

One that she doesn't know if she'll ever get over, even after being arrested.

“I don't know how I'm still standing, I don't know how I'm still feeling. I don't. But I'm trying. I have to keep trying,” Archuleta said.

An APD spokesperson says this is an ongoing investigation and there are no updates. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.
