Texas football receiver Johntay Cook II is no longer with the team, Inside Texas reported Thursday morning.

A Texas official could not confirm the news before practice Thursday morning

Cook, a 2023 five-star recruit from Dallas-area powerhouse DeSoto, had eight catches for 137 yards this season but had not recorded a catch since the Mississippi State game on Sept. 28. He appeared in six games this season for No. 5 Texas (7-1, 3-2 SEC), which resumes conference play against Florida on Saturday.

Cook played in all 14 games as a freshman, but was surpassed in the rotation by transfer additions like junior Isaiah Bond, junior Matthew Golden and senior Silas Bolden, as well as fellow freshman DeAndre Moore Jr. and true freshman Ryan Wingo.

Texas has also recruited heavily at the receiver position in recent cycles, boasting four freshmen who were either four- or five-star prospects. The team has three receivers committed to the 2025 class with either a four- or five-star ranking.
