The 5 best early deals before Prime Day in October 2024

In case you missed the announcement last week, Amazon's Prime Day in October is happening again in just two weeks: Tuesday, October 8th through Wednesday, October 9th. If you want to brush up on your knowledge, check out my Prime Day cheat sheet, but for anyone who just wants to get in, Amazon is hosting Prime Day again, this time with a little holiday twist. And just like regular old Prime Day, these so-called Big Deal Days start a little early.

A quick note on these “early” offers: It is not entirely clear what is only on offer at Amazon and what is already on offer on Prime Day. Since everything could Since this is an early Prime Day deal, I stuck mostly to Strategist-vetted items that are discounted at particularly good prices.

Since we are still two weeks away from the sale, there really aren't many deals yet that I think are worth it – aside from Amazon's own devices and private label brands. These are usually the first items to go on sale during these events, and they usually stay on sale until the end. But I'll be coming back every day until Prime Day in October to highlight other good deals as they pop up. Since there aren't many good deals yet, I've also rounded up some of the items that I strongly suspect will be on sale this year based on past deals.

Some of the best deals are on Amazon's own devices. So far, the Fire HD tablets seem to be the most worthwhile items. This is the cheapest I always seen how to get this model.

If Prime Day in October goes like it has the past two years, there will be lots of gifts, especially toys, on sale. The Fire tablet for kids is already 40 percent off when you buy gifts Extra early.

Another Amazon deal: This HDTV that connects to all your Alexa devices is 35 percent off again, just like it was last year before Prime Day in October. I don't usually see TVs on sale outside of the Black Friday and Prime Day periods, so now is a good time to pick up a cheap model while it's in stock. (And if you've been holding off on buying one during dorm shopping season, it would make a nice gift.)

The Bissell Little Green carpet cleaner is always a best seller with our readers on Prime Day. This heavy-duty version is already about 30 percent off and isn't likely to get any cheaper during the sale.

During Prime Day in July, senior editor Liza Corsillo declared Graco's convertible car seat the best expensive item to buy during the sale because “it can be used from newborn through elementary school.” It's her pick for the most affordable convertible car seat, and it's already $50 off right now.

Like every year, I expect many of Strategist's bestsellers, like Laneige lip balm and Crest teeth whitening strips, to be back on sale. I'm also hoping Malin+Goetz will have some special deals—I bought one of their perfumes last July for 20 percent off and wear it all the time. There are also usually lots of Melissa & Doug toys, home goods like trash bags and toilet paper, and tons of wellness items discounted on Prime Day.
