Today's Connections Answer – Tips to help you solve it

Unlike our guide to today's Wordle answer, where we recommend the best Wordle seed words as a strategy, solving connections is based on identifying connecting categories among 16 words. The difficulty level of each category is represented by a color; Yellow is the simplest grouping and purple is the most challenging. Once you make four mistakes in your guesses, the answers will appear, so hints can be helpful.

If you need hints on solving the groupings, here are the topics for each group based on order of difficulty:

So what are today's Connections answers for game #474?

Today's grid really makes me curious about how the weight of these puzzles is determined. Yesterday's 2.6 was a blast for me, but I could imagine others getting away with it too.

Today I smashed it and even walked backwards. So is it a 3.6 if you don't know science fiction movies, or is it the tricky words that could fall into different categories? I'm not sure.

I saw Matrix, Dune and Gravity straight away. It took a few times to get it to work, but I knew there was something sci-fi-ish there. When we saw “Thing and Fly,” we clicked on “The” and we were able to see “The Abyss,” “The Fly,” “The Matrix,” and “The Thing,” all great movies.

I didn't jump on it, but I was looking for a potential banking category in banking, exchange, and import and trade. It didn't quite fit and felt forced. But then I noticed mound and thought about baseball, which led me to putting bench and starting side by side, which led to the trade and draft. So fantasy sports. I thought about regular exercise, but we'll take it.

Then the green category was added with gravity, meaning, substance and weight.

Eventually we ended up with a “high ground” of escarpments, dunes, hills and hills.

Today I didn't have to stare blankly at the starting grid, which was a relief.

Yesterday's Connections answers

I'm not going to lie, I stared at this grid for a long time before I found the answers.

I rarely use the shuffle feature, mostly because I don't always find it helpful. Today it saved my bacon.

The confusion caused theory and beans to fall side by side. That brought me to (string) theory and (string) beans. Bikini was nearby and I had to go in search of cheese from there.

At one point in my viewing I was dry, neat and virginal and for some reason never saw straight. This time I found it and knocked it down blue.

And then I stared again. It didn't click today.

I made a few attempts at putting the trim, fringe, wax and ruffles together before finally committing to the trim, ruffles, fringe and trim.

This made me grow, grow, grow and grow. I came across a definition here that made me forget that growing technically means to grow or increase. Hence the waxing moon.

Some days, the mystery in Dune flows like spices. Today it was banging its head against the wall, waiting for my brain to make connections I couldn't see.
