When most people think of a trip to Japan, famous cities like Tokyo and Kyoto come to mind.

But beyond these famous cities, this bucket-list destination is home to countless hidden gems—and one airline is offering the chance to visit them for free.

Japan Airlines has announced that it will offer international visitors free domestic flights to any destination in the country.

The aim of the new promotion is to provide a “seamless travel experience” and encourage travel to lesser-known places.

And there is a lot to see. The airline's domestic network includes 133 routes and serves 64 airports.

From the breathtaking landscapes of Hokkaido to the sand dunes of Tottori, travelers can explore Japan's natural beauty without additional transportation costs.

Currently only vacationers from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Thailand and Singapore can benefit from the offer.

The offer extends to Australia and New Zealand from September 18th, Vietnam and the Philippines from September 25th and Indonesia, China, Taiwan and India from September 27th.

Do you live outside of these countries? No panic.

Japan Airlines plans to expand the list of eligible countries later in September, which could be good news for the thousands of British tourists who visit Japan each year.

How do I get a free ticket?

But how can you actually secure a free flight? To be eligible for the offer, travelers must have round-trip international flights booked with the operator and have a corresponding domestic flight on the same reservation.

Travelers from the United States, Canada, Mexico and China will be charged a $100 (74) layover fee if they plan to stay at their first destination for more than 24 hours.

The offer also includes a generous baggage allowance of 23kg in two pieces of luggage, so passengers don't have to worry about annoying additional costs.

The airline recommends visiting numerous domestic destinations, such as the tropical islands of Okinawa and the historic city of Fukuoka.

The move follows Japan Airlines being named one of the world's best airlines at Skytrax's World Airline Awards earlier this year.
