Chelsea 1-1 Nottingham Forest: Noni Madueke secures the hosts' draw after Chris Wood's opening goal

1 minute, 40 seconds Read

Chris Wood and Noni Madueke scored as Chelsea and Nottingham Forest fought out a tactical and determined draw at Stamford Bridge.

Forest took the lead when 32-year-old striker Wood pushed a finish past Robert Sanchez in the 49th minute following a good set piece involving James Ward-Prowse and Nikola Milenkovic.

But Chelsea responded quickly as Madueke equalized eight minutes later after he shot forward with his left foot and shot. His fourth such attempt was beaten by left-back Alex Moreno.

Midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was forced off injured in the second half – putting his chances of playing for England this month in serious doubt as he left the pitch cautiously, in pain and frustrated.

Referee Chris Kavanagh sent off Forest's Ward-Prowse for deliberately handling the ball in the second half to prevent a Nicolas Jackson counter-attack, earning him a second yellow card after previously being sent off for a more conventional tactical one Star player Cole Palmer was warned for fouls.

Then Madueke also appeared to go off injured after Neco Williams sparked a scuffle that pushed defender Marc Cucurella against Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea relied on their big bench to win the game and brought on Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Pedro Neto to win the game with a man advantage, but Palmer had two chances which were well saved by Matz Sels and Felix headed a shot wide of the goal in added time.

In the final minutes, two big attempts were fended off.

Sanchez parried Williams' curling attempt for the visitors, before Nkunku's flying header from close range was parried by Sels at the other end.

It felt like a close game between two in-form clubs pitting their records against each other, with Chelsea dominating in the closing stages.

The Blues' five-game winning streak has ended but they remain unbeaten in the league since the opening game of the season, while Forest are unbeaten in six away games, their longest such run since 1995.
