Aaron Rodger's INT stats overshadow some historic passes in the Jets' loss in London

2 minutes, 3 seconds Read

Even a historical piece by green and white standards. It was the longest pick-six by an opposing linebacker in Jets franchise history.

Three plays and two passes later, Rodgers overthrew Allen Lazard in a deep post and instead found S Camryn Bynum with the second pick.

The last theft was a blast. Rodgers attempted to hit Mike Williams near the Vikings 10 in the final minute of the game. Williams didn't turn in time, but CB and occasional Jets tormentor Stephon Gilmore made it, holding on to the pick as he went down with 44 seconds left to prevent a fourth-down throw from Rodgers, making it a miraculous 24th -23 victory.

Rodgers' line, like his game in general, was, as Saleh described the Jets' early game, “up and down”: 29 of 54 for 244 yards, 2 short TDs, but those 3 picks, all for a 54.9 rating. Under similar pressure to the Broncos the week before, he was sacked three times and beaten 11 times by the pressure man-eaters of the Purple & Gold.

When asked what ailed the Jets in their two straight losses after their back-to-back wins, A-Rod listed several culprits and didn't leave himself out.

“We are playing below our potential,” he said. “Too many mistakes. We were slow starters. Too many mental mistakes. And generally too many mistakes that are difficult to overcome. And for me, I have to take care of the ball. I can’t turn the ball over.” Pass the ball three times and win in this league.

The shame of it was that the game was intended for a glorious late chapter in the Hall of Famer's future autobiography. He got up slowly and hobbled to the visitors' sideline after an incompletion and heavy pressure at the Jets' 14 with six minutes left in the third quarter, then scoffed at his pain.

“I'm definitely devastated. I got my foot caught in the pile there,” he said. “But it appears to be just a lower ankle sprain. They tried to take me to the (blue examination) tent, but then we got a rough slap and I said, 'Screw it, I'm getting back out there.'”

On that drive, the Jets managed 16 plays and 83 yards, and after his ankle injury, he completed 5 of 6 as the offense got close to the Vikes 14 before Greg Zuerlein's short field goal brought the Jets within a score of 17-17. 10. Three series later, he completed 6 of 8, including the 1-yard throw to Garrett Wilson, and it was suddenly 20-17.
