Breakdown of the Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland game results in ALDS: Time, TV

1 minute, 54 seconds Read

We're not saying Game 2 of the ALDS matters, but only 12 of the 116 teams that have lost Game 2 of a Division Series (in either league) since 1995 – regardless of what they did in Game 1 – have made it to the World Series, and only four of them won the whole thing.

So… no pressure, Tarik Skubal. The good news for the Detroit Tigers: They have the guy they want on the mound at Progressive Field today, as the left-hander has a 2.86 ERA with 100 strikeouts in his 13 starts this year following a Tigers loss . Even better news: They're 9-4 in those starts, including a win over the Guardians (their ALDS opponent, in case you missed the headlines) on July 22nd.

The Guardians, meanwhile, will field a left guard who is familiar with the Tigers: Matthew Boyd, who played for Detroit for eight seasons (including 15 starts last season). Tommy John surgery cost Boyd half of last season and most of this season: he has made just eight starts with the Guardians. But since returning from the IL in August, Boyd has been solid, with 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 39 2/3 innings.

Of course, even if the Tigers lose today, their season isn't over; They'll return to Comerica Park for at least one playoff game – Wednesday at 4:08 p.m. if you want to start working on your excuse to get off work now – the franchise's first postseason game since October 2014.

Here's the Tigers' lineup against the Guardians in Game 2 of the ALDS, plus everything else you need to know about the time, TV channel and live stream, and TV announcers in the booth.

Tigers Lineup Game 1: TBA.

Guardians Game 2 Lineup: TBA.
