    Tigers vs. Guardians prediction, live score in Game 2 ALDS: Highlights

    The Detroit Tigers are looking to tie the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians, and our prediction is that this will be a tricky outcome.

    The Tigers enter Game 2 on Monday with a 0-1 hole in the best-of-five series after losing Game 1 7-0. The Tigers are starting top left-hander Tarik Skubal (1-0 in the 2024 postseason), while Cleveland is starting former Tiger left-hander Matthew Boyd.

    The Guardians took a 5-0 lead almost immediately before one out in the first inning of Game 1 and the Tigers' offense was nullified by Cleveland's pitching, led by starter Tanner Bibee. The Tigers' bullpen strategy didn't work in Game 1, but Detroit shouldn't have to operate the same way with Skubal on the mound.

    First pitch for Game 2 is at 4:08 p.m. at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The game will be broadcast on TBS and truTV and can be streamed on Sling. According to BetMGM, the Tigers are the favorite at -125 moneyline.

    Tigers vs Guardians Game 2 Prediction

    The Tigers couldn't get anything going in Game 1 after finding all the right buttons to push in the wild-card series against Houston. Normally reliable opener Tyler Holton was knocked down and Reese Olson allowed a three-run home run on his first pitch that made Cleveland 5-0 in the first inning and Detroit had little chance to recover at the plate.

    Detroit will look to even the series at 1-1 with Skubal on the mound. He has started 13 times after a loss this season and has a 9-4 record in those games. He hopes to do the same on Monday and earn the second playoff win of his career after starting the playoff run with six scoreless innings against Houston. Skubal will start Game 5 if the series goes the distance.

    On the other hand, Cleveland will have an old friend in Boyd. Boyd was one of Skubal's first mentors and friends when he was drafted into the major leagues in 2020 and continued that relationship through 2023, when he was traded to Cleveland. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA this season since returning from the injured list after Tommy John surgery last year and will look to keep Cleveland one win away from advancing before heading to Comerica Park returns.
