The city of Amsterdam has obtained a court order prohibiting Sticker Mule's CEO from lighting the large “Vote for Trump” sign on the roof of his building.

Amsterdam Mayor Michael Cinquanti said the Montgomery Superior Court issued an injunction Friday and scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Sticker Mule's CEO has a political action committee supporting former President Donald Trump's bid.

Cinquanti said the PAC came to the city code enforcement office in August with a description of what they wanted to install. They were informed that they would need a variance due to the height of the sign. Additionally, city code states that signs on the roof of a business must refer to the business below.

Cinquanti said these discrepancies were never identified.

The city's main concern is safety. According to the mayor, the building is located in a highly visible location that can be seen from the expressway.

“It’s a photography opportunity. Nowadays, people with cell phones drive slower and pull off the side of the road. “Our biggest concern was traffic safety,” Cinquanti said.

The sign lighting ceremony is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m

Sticker Mule co-founder and CEO Anthony Constantino issued a statement regarding the controversy.

“I created a beautiful sign designed by local artists to bring the much-needed enthusiasm to Upstate, NY that we need to reignite economic growth. The sign symbolizes the return of manufacturing to America and elevates our hometown skyline. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, it is a tourist attraction that will bring economic activity to Amsterdam, New York, making it a huge win for everyone. Only very partisan and short-sighted politicians would object to this.”
