Two people were hospitalized early Friday afternoon after a small plane crash in Shakopee.

What we know

Shakopee police said they responded to a small plane crash that occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday in Scenic Heights Park.

Two passengers on the plane were taken to hospital. Further information on the severity of their injuries is not yet available.

No further injuries were reported.

Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area while federal authorities respond.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration's registry, the aircraft is owned by Thunderbird Aircraft Co., based in Bloomington.

The aircraft is a multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft of the Piper PA-44-180 type.

The aircraft was manufactured in 1978.
