Leaone told diversity that one of the scenes he thinks people will be talking about when they leave the film is the shower massacre, which was inspired by one of his favorite films of all time – that of Alfred Hitchcock Classic from 1960 Psycho.

“I said to myself, 'If Alfred Hitchcock made this today, would he shoot it the same way? Would it be a little more descriptive?' I said, “I know if I had the opportunity to do Psycho today and I did that shower scene, I would show everything the knife could possibly do,” he explained.

“So I said, 'How do I take this scene and make it my own?' Let's give him a chainsaw instead, because it's more brutal than a knife, and let's make it two people instead of one.'”
