Tennessee football injury report: Lance Heard out against Oklahoma

2 minutes, 30 seconds Read

NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 7 Tennessee football team will play No. 13 Oklahoma today without left tackle Lance Heard.

Heard, an LSU transfer and freshman starter, was ruled out Friday with the updated release of the SEC's student-athlete availability report.

Offensive lineman William Satterwhite, defensive back William Wright and Ben Bolton were listed as probable on Friday's injury report. But all three reserves were listed as active for the Oklahoma game on Saturday's availability report, which was released 90 minutes before kickoff.

No. 7 Tennessee (3-0) plays No. 13 Oklahoma (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. It will be Tennessee's SEC opener and Oklahoma's first SEC game in program history.

Heard's absence will likely keep sixth-year senior Dayne Davis in the starting lineup against Oklahoma. Last week, Davis started at left tackle when Heard did not play in the Vols' 71-0 win over Kent State, which coach Josh Heupel cited as an injury precaution.

Davis split time with John Campbell at right tackle in the first two games as Campbell recovered from a preseason injury. Campbell has played just 91 snaps in three games this season.

Here is the updated availability status for players from Tennessee and Oklahoma.

Injury report from Tennessee

  • DB Jourdan Thomas (out)

  • DB John Slaughter (out)

  • OL Shamurad Umarov (out)

  • OT Lance Heard (out)

Injury report from Oklahoma

  • WR Jayden Gibson (out)

  • WR Jalil Farooq (out)

  • DB Gentry Williams (out)

  • OL Geirean Hatchett (out)

  • Linebacker Dasan McCullough (out)

  • OL Branson Hickman (decision during the game)

  • OL Jake Taylor (decision during the game)

How the SEC Availability Report works

This is UT's first appearance on the SEC's Student-Athlete Availability Report, which was introduced this season only for conference play.

The first report is released on Wednesday night of an SEC game week, with daily updates until a final report is available 90 minutes before kickoff of a Saturday game.

Before game day, players are classified by their school as available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out for the upcoming game. On game day, they are classified as available, game time decision or out.

This is what the terms mean:

• Out: Will not play, 0% chance to play.

• Doubtful: Probably not playing, chance of playing is 25%.

• Questionable: Eligibility uncertain, 50% eligibility.

• Likely: Likely to play, 75% chance to play.

SEC policy requires schools to accurately disclose players' participation status. If the school knows that a player may not be able to participate in the upcoming game for any reason (injury, illness, suspension, ineligibility or personal matter), it must report it.

Otherwise, schools face fines ranging from $25,000 for the first violation to $100,000 for the third and subsequent violations.
