LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Curry County and Roosevelt County in eastern New Mexico until 7:00 p.m. MDT (8:00 p.m. CDT).

As of 5 p.m., an intermittent line of showers and storms moved northeast across Curry County and Roosevelt County in eastern New Mexico.

There is a slight chance that this activity will reach the western part of our observation area near the Texas-New Mexico border this evening. The best chances to see precipitation remain limited to the northwestern part of the observation area.

There is a potential for some of these storms to become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph (96 km/h) and localized flooding due to brief periods of heavy rainfall.

Storm chances are likely to decrease this evening as the storms continue to move northeast (for now).

In addition to the impact of the storms, it will remain windy for everyone else throughout the evening. Winds are expected to be between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. For those not seeing any rain, the forecast will be mostly clear to partly cloudy.

Wednesday will be windy again, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Similar to today, thunderstorms will not be everywhere on Wednesday. The main danger will again come from short periods of heavy rain and strong gusts of wind.
