The point correction makes the Blazers' opening error one point worse

If you didn't think the Portland Trail Blazers' historic opening loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night could get any worse, you were wrong. The game marked the largest opening night loss in Portland franchise history, as the Warriors won 139-104.

But that was the result on Wednesday.

Due to the late correction of a scoring error, the Blazers' loss is now one point larger in the record books. Now the Warriors have officially beaten the Blazers 140-104. The NBA announced the correction on Thursday and explained what went wrong.

With 2:00 minutes remaining in the third quarter, De' Anthony Melton (GSW) was incorrectly credited with two missed free throw attempts when he actually made 1 of 2. As a result, the final score was changed to Golden State 140, Portland 104.

The game statistics have been corrected and the final score of the game is Golden State 140, Portland 104.

The bureaucratic correction 24 hours later is incredibly insignificant given the already lopsided end result. All it really does is rub a little more salt on Portland's wound the day after a discouraging start. It also makes the history books a little darker. Instead of the largest opening loss in Portland franchise history of 35 points, it now shows 36 points.
