After a preseason that left fans wanting more, Harrison Barnes made an impressive statement in the San Antonio Spurs' regular season opener against the Dallas Mavericks. Although the Spurs lost the game 120-109 on the road, Barnes showed why he deserves a spot in the starting lineup.

From the first tip, Barnes looked confident and ready to go. In crucial moments, he took the lead on offense, scoring three-pointers and shooting to the basket with ease. He set the tone in his first seven minutes on the court, scoring 12 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting, including 2-for-2 from long range. He also contributed two rebounds, an assist and a steal – all without a single turnover.

At the end of the night, Barnes finished the game with 17 points and four rebounds and showed his efficiency by shooting 7 of 10 from the field. During his 29 minutes of play, he continued to showcase his range by going 2-for-5 from three-point territory and making one of two free throws.

Although Barnes didn't have a significant defensive impact on the game, he was a stabilizing force when he was involved. At 32, the former No. 7 overall draft pick and 2015 NBA champion has looked like himself with the Golden State Warriors and is ready to lead a talented but young roster.

“I think we understood that, especially in the first half, we played with pace and were a little stagnant with the ball,” Barnes said after the game. “When they play against big defensive teams, obviously they can come on strong and make it difficult, but I think if the guys just play loose, play with confidence and trust their instincts, I think that's something we have as a group. “ “I’ll have to grow into it.”

With Barnes on board, there is optimism that the Spurs are ready to grow and develop as a team. San Antonio will certainly look for more confidence and a sniper mentality as the season progresses.
