Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison recently posted a revealing message – “Free 3” – in an Instagram story.

One can assume that Addison isn't thrilled with his efforts, or lack thereof, lately.

Addison has played five games this season and has scored four or fewer goals in four of those contests. Thursday's 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams saw a season-low three receptions for two catches and 22 yards.

Addison, a former USC star, was the No. 23 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He performed quite well in his rookie season, recording 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns on 108 targets.

But this year, Addison has just 14 catches for 231 yards and one score in five games (he missed Weeks 2 and 3 with a right ankle injury). He had just three catches in each of his first four games before the Rams matchup.

So it's been an unusually quiet year for Addison, especially considering his rookie performance.

There is a sidebar to the IG story. “Free 3” is a statement that means so much to him that it appeared on a necklace he wore to his draft night.

Don’t worry, folks – Jordan Addison has been using FREE 3 since he was drafted.

Ultimately, the wide receivers want the ball. Addison doesn't get the ball and he probably wants the ball more than he should.

This IG story is most likely nothing more than that.

It's not uncommon for wide receivers to speak for themselves or demand more appearances. In fact, here's what his teammate, No. 1 receiver Justin Jefferson, had to say earlier this week.

“I’m definitely tired of these 80, 90-yard plays,” Jefferson said Dave Campbell the Associated Press. “I definitely have to get over that 100-yard hump. That’s definitely my plan.”

He added: “When you see it on tape, the explosive plays can be seen all over the field, not just me. They're all over the field and all 11 of us just have to be dialed in to make those plays” and to give (Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold) a little more time. So it's going to be one of those games where we're going to show the world what we're really capable of and hopefully it's Thursday night.

Entering Thursday, Jefferson played four games without reaching 100 yards. Against the Rams, Jefferson caught eight passes for 115 yards. It was clear the Vikings wanted to feed him early and often, with three catches for 44 yards on the first drive.

Maybe now it's Addison's turn to get the stone. Next comes a Football on Sunday evenings Matchup on November 3rd against the Indianapolis Colts.
