“Texas Tech Kicker Drops Homemade Trump Shirt After Fake Field Goal”

1 minute, 42 seconds Read

Oh man, did we have a moment that will share the room in Saturday's game between Texas Tech and TCU or what?

Some (no doubt probably a larger portion of college football fans) will think this was one of the coolest things they've ever seen.

While others? Well, they probably scream incoherently and write diatribes in threads because they're too afraid of X.

It happened as Red Raiders senior kicker Reese Burkhardt was preparing for a very manageable 22-yard field goal while his team was trailing 14-3.

However, they caught the Horned Frogs completely unprepared when the defending champions threw the ball over his shoulder to Burkhardt, who scurried into the corner of the end zone for a six-yarder.

And while that perfectly executed fake field goal would be a story in itself, Burkhardt's celebration took center stage.

He lifted his pads to reveal a homemade “TRUMP MAGA” shirt.

This will be well received in Texas and is another example of people in the sports world not hesitating to express their support for the former president and current Republican presidential candidate.

You better believe people are devouring it on social media:

Of course, some thought they saw hypocrisy in people celebrating a political statement after many conservatives advocated keeping politics out of sports.

That's a fair point.

Is politics part of sport? I don't think anyone would screw up if the sport became apolitical.

However, that won't happen and the toothpaste will come out of the proverbial tube. The best we can achieve at this point is a climate in which both perspectives are allowed.

If you don't have a problem with an athlete's progressive statement, you should probably be okay with a conservative doing the same, and vice versa.

The problem was that this is not usually the case.

The left has done a pretty good job of getting conservative athletes and broadcasters to keep their traps closed, but that certainly seems to be changing.
