No, Shohei Ohtani will not play in the World Series.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Thursday that there is “no possibility” the projected 2024 NL MVP will face the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic.

After recovering from elbow surgery last fall, Ohtani was never expected to pitch in 2024, but his return continued to be discussed in the media as the Dodgers approached October, leading to Roberts and others had to be vague about the matter.

In September, the Dodgers captain said “anything is possible” and that the likelihood of Ohtani pitching in the postseason was “not zero percent.”

But on the eve of the World Series, Roberts laughed off the investigation — after a reporter joked that it was his “turn to ask the annoying question.”

Roberts said: “There is no possibility (of him pitching). None at all. Thanks for asking.”

Ohtani, 30, is expected to pitch again in 2025, the second season of his 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers. In August, he was spotted throwing off a mound for the first time since his surgery. He made 86 starts for the Angels from 2018 to 2023, posting a 3.01 ERA and finishing fourth in the 2022 AL Cy Young voting.
