Netflix could have a big hit with “Territory.”

Details about the series:

  • Network: Netflix
  • Number of Episodes: Six
  • Cast: Robert Taylor, Anna Torv, Michael Dorman, Sam Corlett and Sara Wiseman
  • Plot: When the largest cattle ranch in the world has no clear successor, generational conflicts threaten to tear the Lawson family apart. Sensing that this once-great dynasty is in decline, the outback's most powerful factions – rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, indigenous elders and billionaire miners – turn to murder.

I was excited about Territory when I saw the first preview of the western series. It immediately became clear that this was Netflix's attempt to replicate the success of Yellowstone… with a little geographical twist.

Instead of being set in America, the series stars former Longmire star Robert Taylor and focuses on a massive cattle ranching operation in Australia.

Netflix's new Western Territory is a lot of fun.

Did it meet my loft expectations? I'm happy to say that after the first episode, Territory definitely works and is 100% worth your time.

There are many similarities between “Yellowstone” and “Territory.” The death of a son in particular triggers a series of events and a power struggle that no one was prepared for.

Does this sound familiar? It's just like when Lee Dutton was killed in the series premiere of the Taylor Sheridan series. Colin Lawson is a land baron who runs the massive cattle ranching operation Marianne Station. When his son Daniel, the anointed heir, is found dead in the wilderness, quick steps are taken to secure the land and find a new heir.

With another son, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Colin must figure out how best to protect his empire from attacks from multiple directions.

Again, does this sound familiar to anyone? He's the John Dutton from “Territory” and faces many of the same problems.

Now there are some disadvantages of “Territory” compared to “Yellowstone”. The production value is significantly lower than “Yellowstone.”

The Paramount Network series has the production value of a major motion picture. To put it simply: “Territory” doesn’t do that.

The acting and script, while very solid, are not as good as Yellowstone. This is simply because Taylor Sheridan is better than everyone else, and that leads to more entertaining and engaging results.

Despite some drawbacks, “Territory” is definitely worth checking out on Netflix if you like western movies and TV series. Have you seen it yet? Let me know what you think below [email protected].
