LeBron James and Anthony Davis are ruthless in the fourth and lead the Lakers past the Kings

The Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Sacramento Kings for the second game in a row on Saturday evening and were looking to improve their record to 3-0 in the young season.

The Lakers lost all four meetings with the division rival Kings last season, but this is a new year and they were able to pull out a 131-127 victory and remain undefeated.

Anthony Davis' 0-10 record against Domantas Sabonis in his career is well documented, but he went one-and-one in the opponent's middle to start. For the Lakers, everyone got involved on offense early and got involved on defense, allowing them to take a 14-6 lead.

After the Kings timeout, Kevin Huerter helped them get going with back-to-back triples. The Kings had no answer for Davis, but hit another three-pointer at the end of the quarter to cut their deficit to 28-26.

Early in the second period, LeBron James began to assert his dominance, hitting Dalton Knecht for a three-pointer and then scoring himself to give the Lakers a double-digit lead. LA began the second quarter with a 14-1 run, forcing another Kings timeout.

From there, however, the Lakers had some careless turnovers and that led to a Kings run that got Malik Monk hot. After a 3-pointer from D'Angelo Russell to end the half, the Lakers went into the locker room with a 64-60 lead.

Sacramento's momentum continued into the third minute when Sabonis fired two shots from inside to give them their first lead since the opening minutes. The referees allowed both teams to play physically and the Lakers had some costly turnovers as a result.

James found the energy he needed to take the lead at the end of the third quarter and give himself and his teammates good looks. However, De'Aaron Fox halted that momentum by hitting back-to-back three-pointers to give his team a 94-87 lead heading into the fourth period.

It didn't take long for the Lakers to answer early in the fourth, as Knecht hit a 3-pointer and then James scored 11 straight points to retake the lead with a 14-0 run.

A Kings timeout didn't seem to solve anything as James continued to go nuclear for LA. The Lakers' run eventually ended at 21-0 as Fox had a steal and a triple.

While DeMar DeRozan and Fox did their best to keep the Kings within striking distance, cutting it to two, they had no answer for James and Davis down the stretch as the Lakers would take the win.

What's next for the Lakers?

After playing the first three games of the season at home, the Lakers will now embark on a five-game road trip where they will face the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies.
