Texas Tech kicker Reese Burkhardt unveiled a MAGA-inspired touchdown celebration after scoring on a trick play against TCU on Saturday.

The unlikely moment came in the first quarter in Forth Worth after Burkhardt lined up for a field goal, only to have a sweep to right deflect a pitch from holder Jack Burgess. Burkhardt beat the Horned Frogs' special teams all the way to the end zone and quickly moved to lift up his jersey and expose his undershirt.

Burkhardt had “Trump 24 MAGA” written on his undershirt, Fox Sports cameras, but not the network's announcers, captured.

Unfortunately for Burkhardt, a senior from Alabama, he missed a 50-yard field goal before TCU secured a 35-34 comeback victory over the Red Raiders.

Despite the defeat, Burkhardt received some online praise for his pro-Donald Trump demonstration.

“This is the best thing you will see in college football today,” wrote Derrick Evans, a former member of the West Virginia House of Representatives who was among the Trump supporters charged with storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 were arrested in 2021.

But many others were upset by Burkhardt's decision to mix politics and football.

“Keep politics out of sports,” I thought,” one person wrote on X.

But the overwhelming number of answers

“They ended up missing the field goal and losing the game,” one fan wrote. “Maybe next time you should keep politics out of sports lol.”

“I'm so glad they lost after that stupid stunt,” one Ohio State fan wrote on X. “I had no interest in this game at all until I saw this and had to tune in and root for them.” I cheered so loudly at the last game when it was clear they were going to lose. Just like Trump will lose in 10 days.'

One respondent compared the celebration to Trump's claim in 2020 that he actually won that year's election.

“Sounds like he prematurely celebrated as much as Trump did in 2020,” one fan joked.
