Carlos Sainz has secured a comfortable victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver recovered after initially losing the lead to Max Verstappen to claim an impressive fourth win in Formula 1.

Verstappen had initially moved up to first place in a turbulent start, but Sainz regained the position on lap 9. Drama then ensued in the following laps as Verstappen tussled with title rival Lando Norris – resulting in Verstappen receiving two 10-second time penalties for his maneuvers against the Brit.

This melee allowed Charles Leclerc to move up to second place, and from then on the Ferrari duo enjoyed a largely unchallenged lead at the front – until Norris managed to chase Leclerc away in the closing stages, chasing a big moment for the Monegasque to secure second place.

While Norris tried to reduce Sainz's lead, the Brit ultimately ran out of time and had to settle for second place while his former teammate secured victory by 4.7 seconds. Leclerc secured the double Ferrari podium in third ahead of the Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, the seven-time world champion, who prevailed in a team fight towards the end of the race.

After this 20-second penalty, Verstappen caught up and crossed the finish line in sixth place on a difficult day for Red Bull. Behind him, it was a better Sunday for Haas as Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg finished the event in seventh and ninth place.
