The San Francisco 49ers have added two players to key positions ahead of their Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Safety Adrian Amos, who was signed to the team's practice squad two weeks ago, will make his 49ers debut as a standard player on the active roster.

Amos, a nine-year NFL veteran, last played for the Houston Texans last year, splitting time between them and the New York Jets and starting three games for the New York Jets.

He will serve as safety for the 49ers, who will be without Talanoa Hufanga as he remains on injured reserve with a wrist injury and will therefore be out for an extended period of time.

San Francisco is expected to start Ji'Ayir Brown and rookie Malik Mustapha, but now Amos and veteran George Odum will be used as top reserve safeties for the crucial game of Week 8.

Amos spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, where he was a starter for eight years before playing in a reserve role with the Texans and Jets last year. He has not played yet this season and will be entering his 10th NFL season.

San Francisco also named kicker Anders Carlson for the second straight season as he will once again take over the starting job due to injuries at the position.

For the 49ers, Jake Moody is still nursing his ankle injury and hopes to bring him back after the bye week, while Matthew Wright, who was signed after his injury, is playing on injured reserve.

Carlson made two field goals in his 49ers debut, from 55 yards and 24 yards against the Chiefs, but missed an extra point in the 28-18 loss.

San Francisco is entering a big week with a current record of 3-4, good for last place in the NFC West. They face a struggling Dallas Cowboys team that has just come off a bye week and is looking for some much-needed momentum heading into its own bye week.
