Josh Jacobs rewards the Packers for their trust

JACKSONVILLE – Just trust me.

That's all that was going through Josh Jacobs' mind as the Packers running back continued to pound the Jacksonville defensive front in a 30-27 win over the Jaguars on Sunday at EverBank Stadium.

Even when the big wins weren't coming early, Jacobs felt like he was on the verge of breaking one. All he needed were the porters.

“I told them the whole game … I liked all the runs,” Jacobs said. “Even when they attacked me, it was like I was going under, but I'm just one step away from getting out of there. I kept telling them – just trust me.”

The Packers did that, and perhaps won the game, as Jacobs proved to be a catalyst in Green Bay, overcoming the absence of quarterback Jordan Love, who left in the third quarter with a groin injury and did not return.

Jacobs finished the game with 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, with the majority of that output coming in the final two quarters (14 rushing for 96 yards).

Jacobs opened the first full series with Malik Willis under center with four straight runs for 16 yards. After Willis scrambled for 20 yards, Jacobs broke off a 38-yard TD run that might go down as one of Green Bay's biggest plays of the season.

The score came with 21 seconds left in the third quarter, an emphatic response after Jacksonville had just taken a 20-17 lead.

“My goal in this game was to inspire the player and inspire the team,” Jacobs said. “Whatever that looks like, I just wanted to come in and run hard. The boys should trust me. It just evolved that way.”

“Unfortunately Jordan got injured. I just wanted to send a message that we can still win games when we pass the ball. We can still win games however we want if we focus on the details.”

Jacobs was signed as a free agent in March and has rushed for 667 yards in his first eight games. Only former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Eddie Lacy (669 in 2013) has accomplished more in his first eight games with Green Bay.

“Man, Josh is different,” reserve running back Chris Brooks said. “We all see what Josh does. What he brings is everything. It's good for young people like me and 'E' (Emanuel Wilson) to look at this and get a better look at him.”
