Mondays Wordle is a tricky matter, so don't be dismayed if you are faced with the puzzle.

Even the game's creator, Josh Wardle, a New York-based software developer, has admitted that he has problems with it. He told Newsweek in 2022 that he usually takes at least four or five tries to find the answer, while his partner consistently finds it in three tries.

Wardle created Wordle so that his partner can play during the COVID-19 lockdown.

After it was released to the public in October 2021, it quickly became an online sensation. The New York Times bought Wordle for an undisclosed low seven-figure amount in 2022, and it remains free to play via the publication's website and game app.

The premise is simple: There's a different five-letter word every day and the games have six attempts to guess it. When a guessed letter is in the right place, the tile turns green. If it is in the wrong place, it will turn yellow. And if the letter doesn't appear in the word at all, the tile turns gray.

Wordle Fans try to guess the word of the day in as few attempts as possible and play every day to maintain their winning streak.

Playing tactically is the best way to solve the daily puzzle, said Erhan Aslan, an expert in applied linguistics who teaches at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, in an interview with Newsweek.

“One thing I think is important in this game is the initial letter chosen. It might be helpful to start with letters that contain commonly used vowels like e and a, consonants like r and t, and sound sequences,” Aslan said.

“Choosing a word that starts with q, z, j, or x, for example, may not be the best choice. Because you get more feedback after a few guesses, users need to draw on some knowledge of phonetics to narrow down or eliminate some words they might be thinking.

“For example, if the second letter of the target word is l (shown in green) and the player feels that the word begins with a consonant, they need to know that there are only a few possibilities for consonant clusters – such as B. bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl.”
