Bill Simmons criticizes Dwyane Wade's statue and compares it to Fire Marshall Bill

The Miami Heat received a lot of criticism for unveiling the Dwyane Wade statue.

Critics included Bill Simmons of The Ringer. He said the statue barely resembled Wade.

“The biggest loser of the day was Dwyane Wade, who had the worst statue ever,” Simmons said on his podcast.

Simmons said the statue looked like it had been burned. He compared it to Jim Carey's “Fire Marshall Bill” from the 1990s show In Living Color.

“I actually thought it looked like someone who had emerged from a fire and survived,” Simmons said. “What a firefighter sketch by Jim Carey. Can you imagine a statue looking this bad? Revelation, would you even say that?

Simmons ended the rant by saying it took him “700 guesses” to say the statue was Wade.

Wade is the first player in Heat history to own a statue. He joins the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Dirk Nowitzki and Dominique Wilkins, who have statues in front of the arenas where they played.

Wade is considered the franchise's greatest player. Before retiring in 2019, he helped lead the Heat to three NBA titles. He led them for the first time in 2006 and was named Finals MVP. He later won two games alongside LeBron James and Chris Bosh.
