Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea sent a cryptic message on social media with the 🤌 Emoji following the sacking of Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag, the Spaniard's former manager at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag was officially released by Manchester United on Monday after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, leaving the team 14th in the Premier League.

De Gea's news has caused a stir online, with fans speculating about the exact reason behind his tweet.

Many believe the sacking of Ten Hag, who replaced De Gea at Manchester United with former Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, is the most likely reason. According to multiple reports, Ten Hag and his former goalkeeper did not have a particularly smooth relationship at Old Trafford.

Another possible reason, some suggest, is the rumored decision to hand the Ballon d'Or to De Gea's former Spain teammate Rodri rather than Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr.

There were also suggestions that the post was in response to Fiorentina's stunning 5-1 win over Roma in Serie A on Sunday night, although this is less likely as a scenario given the goalkeeper has already made several social media posts had written about the game in the immediate aftermath.

The 33-year-old officially joined Firoentina as a free agent towards the end of the summer transfer window, following a year that expired on his Manchester United contract last summer. He has been a regular fixture at Old Trafford since 2011.
