Dez Bryant criticizes Mike Zimmer over Dallas Cowboys' early defensive problems against the Ravens

2 minutes, 30 seconds Read

Dez Bryant has seen enough of his former team. On Sunday, the former wide receiver spoke out about the Cowboys' defense after the Ravens took an early 14-3 lead against Dallas. In particular, Bryant took aim at Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

“Zim’s coaching style and that of the Cowboys’ defensive players are not compatible,” Bryant wrote on X.

When a user on X tried to defend Zimmer's play, Bryant didn't hesitate to hit back.

“You're just talking,” Bryant wrote. “Dan Quinn was just there… except for the Packers game last year… the guys did great… it's Coach Zim defense.”

In Week 2, the Cowboys allowed 44 points against the New Orleans Saints and lost. The Saints dominated the Cowboys on the ground and in the air. Quarterback Derek Carr managed 243 passing yards, while running back Alvin Kamara totaled 115 rushing yards.

Now, entering the game against the Ravens, the Cowboys defense is not showing much improvement from last week. In his post, Bryant referenced the Cowboys' defensive success under Dan Quinn last season, who left the organization to become head coach of the Washington Commanders.

Dez Bryant was right when he praised Quinn's defense with the Cowboys. In the 2023 season, the Cowboys had the fifth-best defense in the league, allowing just 299.7 yards per game. For comparison, the Saints totaled 432 yards of offense against the Cowboys last week.

Micah Parsons contradicts Mike Zimmer

After last week's loss, Zimmer tried to explain the Cowboys' lackluster performance.

“I wouldn't say it's a problem with the effort,” McCarthy said of Jon Machota of The athlete“I think it was really because they were faster on the first shot than we were. They were better at finishing than we were.”

Despite Zimmer's argument, Cowboys star Micah Parsons had a different view. In fact, the former Penn State star disagreed with his defensive coordinator.

“None of them tried hard,” Parsons said. “It doesn't matter who played well and who didn't. None of them tried hard… At the end of the day, training camp and the whole process of getting you ready for the season is where you have a measure of who you are.

“We didn't live up to that standard. That wasn't the Dallas Cowboys that I saw or knew that showed up last week.”

No matter who is right, both have the same goal: win games. Tune in to FOX to see the Cowboys try to mount a comeback against the Ravens.
