Texans WR Stefon Diggs is out for the season with a torn ACL, dashing his championship hopes

Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Diggs suffered the injury in the Texans' 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. He was injured during a non-contact play.

Diggs had 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight appearances before the injury.

Houston traded a second-round and fifth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in April for Diggs and a sixth-rounder. It was the second time in his career that Diggs was traded in the offseason, having been traded from the Minnesota Vikings to Buffalo in 2020.

A fifth-round pick in 2015, Diggs has recorded at least 1,000 yards every year since 2018. This season he is just five yards shy of 10,000 for his career and is currently at 10,496.

In 2020, Diggs led the NFL with 127 catches for 1,535 yards.

After being traded to the Texans in April, Diggs and the team agreed to restructure his contract, eliminating the final three years and making him a free agent after this season. The new deal reportedly paid Diggs $22.5 million in 2024.

Houston is already without receiver Nico Collins, who was placed on injured reserve after Week 5 with a hamstring injury. The earliest Collins can return is Week 10.

The Texans' next game is Thursday night against the New York Jets. Houston is 6-2, in first place in the AFC South and currently in second place in the AFC.
