Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City: EFL Cup Round of 16 game time, live blog and online viewing

2 minutes, 31 seconds Read

After an ugly defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend, Tottenham Hotspur will quickly have the chance to wash the taste of this defeat from our collective mouths or of course add to the misery. It's time for the EFL Cup round of 16 and possibly the most demanding clash of all, with Manchester City as their opponents.

Despite this, Spurs have been something of a bogeyman for City in recent years, with the Lilywhites regularly picking up points in their clashes with the northern side. Pep Guardiola has also strongly hinted that he plans to rotate, with City (perhaps surprisingly) lacking significant squad depth in the team this season.

Unfortunately, it's a similar story for Spurs, with captain Son Heung-min still likely to be out injured and fellow winger Wilson Odobert suffering another setback as most of Spurs' remaining squad is young and inexperienced. The pace of games has also increased in recent weeks, so there are some tired older players in the squad and Ange Postecoglou may have to make some difficult decisions about how much to prioritize this knockout tie over other competitions. It will still be fascinating.

Adjust thread rules

The match thread rules are the same as always. All visitors who come here for the first time are warmly welcome! We're glad you're here! Wipe your feet, mind the gap, and be sure to check out the other pages of this excellent site. However, while you're here, we have a few rules and regulations:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They are evil and get us into trouble. Violators will be warned or banned.
  • We have rules against “relentless negativity.” Nobody likes a negative Nancy. Don't be knee-jerk and post outlandish or hurtful things just because you're frustrated.
  • In this sense, direct insults to players or match officials are not permitted. It's okay to say “Wow, that was a really bad call,” but it's NOT okay to excessively berate said officer over a call you didn't like.
  • Treat other people in the match thread the way you would want someone else to treat your grandmother. Be nice. This is a community of fans, not an unmoderated message board.
  • NO SPIDERS!
  • Although we don't have a policy against profanity, please try to keep the naughty words at bay. In addition, statements that are sexist, racist, transphobic or homophobic in nature will be immediately deleted and you will be blocked immediately. This is an open, supportive community.

Have fun and COYS!
