BOSTON — Just when you thought of the story about two Yankees fans be ejected from Tuesday night's World Series game due to interference from Mookie Betts couldn't get any wilder, with Rob Gronkowski now in the mix. According to Gronk, he went to college with one of those fans.

During his Wednesday appearance on “Up & Adams with Kay Adams,” Gronkowski said he knew Austin Capobianco, one of the two fans who were kicked out during the event Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium for attacking Betts after the Dodgers outfielder made a catch in the right field stands in the first inning.

Based on everything we know about Gronkowski during his career with the New England Patriots, it's easy to imagine him and Capobianco getting into some shenanigans during their college days at Arizona.

Gronkowski says he was college buddies with a kicked-out Yankees fan

“Fun fact: That guy that grabbed Mookie Betts’ glove was my friend in college,” Gronkowski told Adams on Wednesday.

“He was on the hockey team – the Arizona Wildcats club hockey team. I can tell you, the entire hockey team was amazing. It's unbelievable how wild these boys were. Animals,” Gronkowski said.

Gronkowski didn't sound surprised that Capobianco tried to rip the ball out of Betts' glove Tuesday night.

“For him to do that represents him very well. He is all-in for his teams. He’s all-in for the Yankees,” Gronkowski said. “I remember him talking all the time about the Yankees and how much he loves them.

“He is a beauty. I just want to congratulate him on shining when your moment came,” Gronkowski added.

Adams pushed back, asking if he really believed Capobianco's actions were acceptable. Gronk took things back a bit.

“I think this behavior is really unacceptable,” Gronkowski said. “…But when you're that big of a fan, that's what fans do.”

Two Yankees fans will not be allowed to return for Game 5

Capobianco and his friend John Peter were both sent off after interfering with Betts in right field. The Yankees have announced that the two will not be allowed to return for Game 5 on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

“Last night, two fans were ejected from Yankee Stadium for egregious and unacceptable physical contact with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts.” the team said in a press release. “The safety of players, fans and stadium staff is the fundamental element of every event at Yankee Stadium and must not be compromised.”

The Dodgers lead the Yankees 3-1 in the series.
