Predicted Chelsea vs Newcastle United line-up: Carabao Cup

2 minutes, 45 seconds Read

CONFIRMED LINEUP: Jorgensen; Disasi, Adarabioyo, Badiashile, Cucurella; Veiga, Fernandez; Dewsbury-Hall, Félix, Mudryk; Nkunku

Three days after their 2-1 Premier League win, Chelsea travel north to St James' Park for their second consecutive meeting against Newcastle United, this time in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues ended the Magpies' Carabao Cup dream a season ago, progressing to the semi-finals on penalties at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea ended up in the final at Wembley, but Mauricio Pochettino's team were defeated by Liverpool in the final.

After Sunday's win, Enzo Maresca has all of the first team players available again. Although his side were superior to Newcastle last time out, it would be a surprise to see a repeat player in the starting XI.

Maresca has made a habit of completely rotating his squad, using a completely different starting XI in the league than in the Carabao Cup and UEFA Conference League.

TW: Filip Jörgensen—Maresca insists he is happy with Robert Sánchez as a starter in the league despite his uncertain moments. Jörgensen was solid in midweek games and could soon push for top spot in the EPL.

LB: Marc Cucurella—Reece James' return to fitness has made Cucurella the odd man out in the league. However, Malo Gusto has not reached his standards from last season and James' health is never a guarantee, so the Spaniard could be back in the EPL lineup very soon.

CB: Tosin Adarabioyo—The former Fulham centre-back is a solid substitute. He returns to the team after his mixed performance at Anfield a week and a half ago.

CB: Renato Veiga– Veiga's versatility was demonstrated in his early days with the Blues, having played as a midfielder, full-back and centre-back since his arrival. We can be very happy about the 21-year-old.

RB: Axel Disasi—Mauricio Pochettino experimented and played Disasi as a full-back late in his Chelsea tenure. Disasi must be grateful, otherwise it's hard to see how he would get minutes under Maresca if he hadn't offered James and Gusto a break midweek.

CM: Enzo Fernández –Romeo Lavia continues to impress and has fully taken over the role of Moisés Caicedo's midfield partner in the Premier League. Fernández looked good against Panathinaikos, finally playing deeper when deployed alongside Caicedo.

CM: Kieran Dewsbury Hall –The former Leicester City player has done nothing wrong since arriving in west London.

LW: Mykhailo Mudryk—After scoring a goal and two assists against Panathinaikos, Mudryk has looked sharper and more confident of late.

AM: João Félix—Félix is stuck behind Cole Palmer, which points to Chelsea's strong squad. Félix scored a brace against Panathinaikos.

RW: Jadon Sancho—After a great start to his Chelsea career, Sancho hasn't played a minute in the Blues' last two games. Pedro Neto shone at the weekend and appears to have taken over the starting role in the league for the time being.

ST: Christopher Nkunku—Nkunku will look to continue his scoring streak in every midweek game Chelsea have played this season. He has already scored nine goals this season, but Nicolas Jackson's strong form has restricted him to just 153 minutes in the Premier League so far.
