The climactic scene of “Good Son” was filmed in Minnesota

1 minute, 39 seconds Read

I recently stumbled upon this in a Facebook group and can't believe I've never heard of this film. The climactic scene was filmed right here in Minnesota.

Maybe the reason I never heard of it is because it wasn't a huge success and the critics panned it. Still, there were some big names there. It starred Macaulay Culkin and Elija Wood. The movie is called “The Good Son” and it’s pretty scary. SPOILER ALERT. For some reason I feel like I have to warn you, even though it's been 31 years.

Sweet Macaulay Culkin had already starred in films like Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Home Alone 2 and My Girl when this film came out. It was a drastic change for Culkin, as his role in The Good Son was that of a child psychopath.

“The Good Son” storyline

Yes, it's true. The plot of the story involves Elijah Wood's character Mark being sent to live with his aunt in Maine with her family while his recently widowed father goes on a business trip to Tokyo. As he adjusts to his extended family, he realizes that his cousin Henry (Macaulay Culkin) is a psychopath fascinated by death.

He witnesses his cousin killing his other cousin Connie. More really scary things happen and eventually he convinces Henry's mother (his aunt) that Henry is dangerous. She confronts her son and tells Henry he needs help. He runs away and she chases him.

Climax shot at Palisade Head

Then they come to the scene filmed at Palisade's Head over Lake Superior. She chases him and they reach a cliff. Henry pushes his mother off the cliff, but she manages to grab a branch. Wood's character Mark attacks Henry and they fight on the cliff. You can see the rest in this movie clip.
