New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS): The Congress party on Wednesday termed the increase in commission for petrol pump dealers as a mere “eyewash” and questioned when the benefits of low fuel prices will be passed on to consumers and common man.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told

“Indian crude oil basket is at USD 72.04 per barrel on 10/28/2024. The Modi government has earned more than Rs 31.75 crore through central taxes/duties on crude oil and petroleum products. “When will consumers be relieved by the reduction in petrol-diesel prices?” he asked.

Meanwhile, the announcement of increase in commission for petrol pump dealers by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) is likely to impact petrol and diesel prices in many states. In particular, consumers in distant and remote areas are likely to benefit significantly.

According to reports, petrol and diesel prices are likely to fall in states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh due to the alleged rationalization of inter-state freight transport.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed the change in dealer margins and termed it as a gift from Dhanteras to the public.

“The demand that has been in place for seven years has been met. “An important decision by oil majors to streamline inter-state freight transport will benefit consumers in remote areas far from the petrol and diesel depots of oil marketers,” the Union minister wrote on X.

He further pointed out that the increase in dealer commission will improve the service for about 7 million citizens who visit fuel retail outlets every day.

He further stated that fulfillment of this demand will bring joy and happiness to the petrol pump dealers and the 10,000+ lakh employees working at more than 83,000 petrol pumps across the country.
