The National Weather Service has increased the chance of first snow for some areas, including Fort Collins, and increased the forecast snowfall total in other areas of the state.

Here's the latest on the storm system that moved across the state's mountains Tuesday afternoon:

Freeze Warning issued for Fort Collins and the I-25 corridor

  • When: Wednesday 10 p.m. to Thursday 9 a.m
  • Where: Interstate 25 corridor from the Wyoming state line to south of Denver, including Fort Collins, Boulder, Greeley, Denver and Castle Rock.
  • Low temperature expected: 22 degrees
  • Precautions: Cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors and drain them using sprinkler systems. Here's how.

Time when cold and snow will sweep across Colorado's mountains and the Front Range

According to the National Weather Service Tuesday morning:

  • Tuesday: Rain and mountain snow will occur throughout the day, with the heaviest snow accumulations occurring above 10,000 feet. Higher mountain roads and mountain passes may be snow covered at times due to heavier snow showers.
  • Tuesday evening: Snow is decreasing in the mountains. After midnight, a cold front will move south through the area, bringing colder temperatures. Just before sunrise, a few snow showers are possible over the mountains and also along the Front Range.
  • Wednesday: Snow showers will occur at regular intervals through Wednesday afternoon. Light snow is possible along the Front Range and across the Plains Wednesday morning. Little to no snow accumulation is expected in the lower elevations, while 2.5 to 10 cm is possible in the mountains and foothills.

  • Fort Collins: 42% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 12% Monday morning)
  • Loveland: 43% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 26% Monday morning)
  • Wellington: 35% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 18% on Monday morning)
  • Windsor: 43% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 4% Monday morning)
  • Greeley: 45% chance of 0.1 inch or more (versus 0% on Monday morning)
  • Berthoud: 46% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 35% Monday morning)

Nationwide

  • Denver: 63% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 33% Monday morning)
  • Denver International Airport: 48% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 34% Monday morning)
  • Boulder: 83% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 46% Monday morning)
  • Longmont: 50% chance of 0.1 inch or more (up from 35% on Monday morning)

  • Red Spring Lakes: 0 to 3 inches
  • Estes Park: 0 to 3 inches
  • Cameron Pass: 2 to 8 inches
  • Bear Lake: 1 to 7 inches

  • Buckhorn Mountain: 0 to 3 inches
  • Milner Pass: 2 to 8 inches

  • Eisenhower Tunnel: 2 to 7 inches expected
  • Vail Pass: 2 to 6 inches expected

Updated weather forecast for Fort Collins, including Halloween

  • Tuesday evening: 40% chance of precipitation before 5 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Low temperatures around 31 degrees.
  • Wednesday: 60% chance of precipitation with rain and snow likely before 9 a.m., then snow likely between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., then a chance of rain after 1 p.m. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch possible. High near 44.
  • Wednesday evening: 20% chance of precipitation, with rain and snow mixing after 7 p.m. Lowest temperature at 11 p.m.
  • Thursday (Halloween): Sunny, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming south-southeast at 5 to 7 mph in the morning and gusting to 16 mph in the afternoon. Low around 27.
