Kevin Durant doesn't think his NBA career will earn him a statue like Dwyane Wade

The topic of which NBA players deserve a statue outside an arena when they retire has come up a lot lately since the unveiling of Dwyane Wade's statue outside the Miami Heat's Kaseya Center.

In his speech at the statue's unveiling, Wade named three current NBA players who he believes deserve a statue after their careers are over: LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

When Kay Adams asked Durant about the salute, Durant said he was honored but didn't think he deserved a statue.

“I very, very doubt I’ll get a statue of me put up anywhere because I play basketball,” Durant said. “Usually it's these guys who made it into the Hall of Fame, you've been in a city for a long time in championships. That’s not the case for me.”

Durant's career definitely looks different than that of any NBA player receiving statues. Durant played on four teams and won two NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors. But NBA fans don't typically think of the Warriors first when they hear Durant's name – it's probably the Oklahoma City Thunder, where Durant began his career and played the longest. However, he didn't win any titles with the Thunder.

The situation is different for Curry, who stayed with the Warriors his entire career and brought the team four NBA titles, and for James, who moved between different teams but won four titles with three different teams.

Only time will tell if Durant will one day receive a statue outside of an arena, his career isn't quite over yet.
