Will Kevin Durant get a statue with the Warriors in front of Chase Center?

Throughout human history, one of a person's greatest achievements is to have a statue in their honor. And when it comes to sports, this is the ultimate immortalization: your face will be forever sculpted and displayed for generations to come.

Here is a list of the legends that have statues in their honor:

  1. Michael Jordan –Chicago Bulls
  2. Magic Johnson –Los Angeles Lakers
  3. Kareem Abdul Jabbar –Los Angeles Lakers
  4. George Mikan –Los Angeles Lakers
  5. Jerry West –Los Angeles Lakers
  6. Shaquille O'Neal –Los Angeles Lakers
  7. Elgin Baylor –Los Angeles Lakers
  8. Kobe Bryant –Los Angeles Lakers
  9. John Stockton –Utah Jazz
  10. Karl Malone –Utah Jazz
  11. Dominique Wilkins -Atlanta Hawks
  12. Dirk Nowitzki -Dallas Mavericks
  13. Larry Bird – Outside Indiana State University
  14. Bill Russell – Boston City Hall Plaza
  15. Wilt Chamberlain – Philadelphia 76ers facility
  16. Julius Erving – Philadelphia 76ers facility
  17. Dirk Nowitzki –Dallas Mavericks
  18. Dwyane Wade –Miami Heat

I've actually followed the entire career of D-Wade, the youngest member of the Statue Brotherhood. It's amazing to watch the career of a man from rookie to grizzled veteran, maintaining arena after arena and bringing championships to the city that chose him.

That's why I was shocked when Kevin Durant, Warriors legend and one of the greatest players in NBA history, wasn't sure if he would get a statue despite his Hall of Fame career!

“Look, Dwyane Wade is a different case,” Durant continued. “He’s Miami. He is the heat. There are very few players who experience this kind of love in a city like this. Usually it's these guys who made it into the Hall of Fame, you've been represented in a city for a long time at championships. That's not the case for me. But I can imagine it with some other players in the league.”

Honestly, in my humble blog opinion, KD could easily get a statue in Oklahoma City and Golden State. He won an MVP with the Thunder and led them to an NBA Finals. Of course, he defected to the Golden Empire and solidified their dynasty by winning two Finals MVPs and two rings with the Dubs.

This contradicts the idea that GSW owner Joe Lacob said in 2021 that Durant would be included in the Hamptons 5 statues:

The Warriors' big three, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, are among the most important players in franchise history and led the organization to three NBA championships in five seasons. Kevin Durant won two Finals MVPs and nearly led the Warriors back to their fourth title before his Achilles tendon injury in the 2019 Finals.

Warriors CEO Joe Lacob told NBC Sports Bay Area's Grant Liffmann that he wants not only those four to receive permanent honors at Chase Center, but also 2015 NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala.

“Given the great successes that the core of Curry and Draymond and Klay and Kevin haven't had as long as those guys and even Andre Iguodala for three years, I would say those five guys definitely deserve some kind of Ultimate Long – Term recognition,” Lacob said to Liffmann on “Dubs Talk.”

“When they retire, I’m sure they will be honored appropriately.”

GIVE DURANT A STATUE, LORD. LACOB!
