Alexander County government will again participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans in 2024. The county's administration building, service center and court park will be lit green November 4-11 as part of Operation Green Light, an initiative between the Alexander County government. the National Association of Counties (NACo), the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO), and the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC).

Each November, the Alexander County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution supporting Operation Green Light. The mission of Operation Green Light is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts and to raise awareness of the unique challenges many veterans (and their families) face and the resources available at county, state and and federal levels are available to support veterans and their families.

Residents are encouraged to get involved by simply changing a light bulb in their home to a green light bulb. This can be an outdoor light that neighbors and passers-by see, or an indoor light that sparks conversation with friends. By giving the green light, families can show local veterans that they are seen, valued and supported.

While this event focuses on Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to give the green light year-round. Visit www.naco.org/operationgreenlight or https://alexandercountync.gov/departments/veterans-services for more information and links to resources available to veterans.
