What Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich told Malachi Corley after an incredible mistake

Malachi Corley owes Garrett Wilson some dinner – maybe some of it.

Wilson's two brilliant touchdown catches in the Jets' 21-13 victory over the Texans turned Corley's epic blunder into an embarrassing aftertaste, as opposed to the actual nadir it initially seemed destined to be.

At this point, however, Jets interim coach Jell Ulbrich was embarrassed.

“To be honest, I was definitely frustrated — and angry at the same time,” Ulbrich told reporters. “But what a great opportunity for this kid to grow and learn from. “I promise you that in 10 years, when he’s still in this league, this will never happen again.”

Corley was close to scoring his first NFL touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter when he raced toward the end zone on a reverse.

However, Corley tried to speed up his celebration and dropped the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Ulrbrich, who had just won his first win as Jets coach, shared some of what he said with Corley after the game.

“First of all: That’s not possible,” said Ulbrich.

It was only the second offensive action all season for the rookie from Western Kentucky.

“I said we have to score 28 to 30 points,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on Amazon’s postgame show.

“Tonight I count 28. We scored 21 goals and we had another… er, miss on the goal line, but I'm proud of the way we responded in the second half.”

The 3-6 Jets face the Cardinals next Sunday in a bid to save their season.
