A look at November weather in Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – With Friday being November 1st, many are wondering what the month might look like weather-wise.

November can be a month full of extremes, from warm temperatures to arctic outbreaks and snowstorms. Typically, the average high temperature here in western Massachusetts is 51 degrees. The average low temperature is 32 degrees and November can be wet with an average of 3.7 inches of rain.

November is also known to be the start of significant snowfall in New England. Here in the Pioneer Valley, the average snowfall in November is 2.5 inches.

The record high temperature for November was 81 degrees on November 2, 1950 and the coldest record temperature was -4 degrees on November 24, 1989. The largest snowfall of the month occurred on November 25, 1971, when 12.2 inches of snow fell in Springfield.

Even though we don't expect snow in the near future, November is a good month to start your winter preparations and make sure your snow blower is working and you have all the winter essentials.
