Bournemouth secure historic win against Man City

1 minute, 17 seconds Read

Antoine Semenyo and Evanlison scored as Bournemouth secured their first win against Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries have been in good form, having picked up four points from their last two games against Aston Villa and Arsenal, and started quickly and full of positivity.

Ederson was forced into a double save after just two minutes, denying Semenyo and Justin Kluivert.

With the tone set, Bournemouth continued to press high and were rewarded in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez's cutback from the byline was converted by Semenyo.

City failed to get a shot on target in a largely frustrating first half.

Bournemouth entered the second half full of confidence and almost doubled their lead in the first minute, but Ederson was sharp off his line and saved Evanlison's shot.

However, Evanlison made sure with his next chance, hitting Kerkez's low ball and pushing it into the bottom corner.

The hosts should have done it three moments later but Adam Smith, scoring an open goal, shot over the bar after Marcus Tavernier's shot bounced off the post.

In the 80th minute, City finally registered a shot on goal, albeit a weak one, with Erling Haaland struggling to get the necessary power from his volley.

And two minutes later, Josko Gvardiol headed past a desperate Mark Travers to give hope, but the Premier League champions failed to equalize.

The defeat means City drop to second place after Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton, while Bournemouth move up to eighth.

More to follow.
