The 2024 Breeders' Cup World Championships is one of the richest events in sports, with over $30 million paid out in purses and awards.

Owners are paid up to 10th place and share their winnings with their jockeys and trainers under agreed terms. A win can carry more weight than just prize money, as it can also increase the value of a horse when considering breeding.

The event at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in California included five Breeders' Cup races on Friday and nine more on Saturday. The Breeders' Cup has been held at other locations, including Santa Anita Park, Keeneland and Churchill Downs.
