Tottenham vs Aston Villa: Premier League – live | Premier League

6 minutes, 11 seconds Read

Important events

29 mins: Onana hits the post, climbs high enough to head down, and Vicario can only sneak behind him. Villa suddenly gains momentum.

share

27 mins: A series of fouls. Spurs seem more likely, if not more likely.

share

25 minutes: Villa now have a free kick. Tielemans' hit hits Vicario. Spurs are able to attack, with Johnson the target but offside.

share

24 mins: Udogie asks to go on the overlap, but he only manages to knock Onana over. The Spurs dominate, but it is a sterile dominance.

share

22 mins: Another Bentancur long-distance runner. Better, but still wide.

share

21 mins: Chris Walker: “I'm a bit confused. Is this brilliant Unai Emery the same Unai Emery who was sacked from Arsenal a few years ago because he was basically useless?”

To be fair to Emery, he inherited a mess.

share

20 minutes: Udogie wins a corner after Onana's tackle. Sarr goes away, shoots and Johnson tries to deflect the ball. Had he hit Martinez, the offside flag would certainly have been waved.

share

18 minutes: Bentancur shoots. Terrible.

share

17 mins: A short corner was taken, a waste of time, although Spurs almost launched an attack by stealing the ball away.

share

16 minutes: Villa attack with Rogers, McGinn and Tielemans. Udogie breaks up the move and Kulusevski sends Johnson away, the ball going slightly over the ball. One corner has to be enough.

share

15 minutes: McGinn is fouled by Bentancur; this momentarily awakens the crowd from their sleep.

share

14 mins: We're getting dangerously into the territory of fascinating tactical battles. It was mostly terrible.

share

13 mins: Porro is fouled and Tottenham have a free kick in a dangerous position. Who will it hit? Son sends it in, Solanke goes over.

share

10 minutes: Villa are once again patient and try to tempt the Tottenham defense. And that doesn't really work either.

share

8 minutes: Lots of zipper, not much quality. The son appears to be stuck on the left flank. Bentancur tries to find Son, but the captain misinterprets the ball.

share

7 minutes: Porro imagines a swipe as the ball bounces to him. His shot lands in the stands. Worth a try? Probably not.

share

6 minutes: Kulusevski is robbed by a combination of Cash and McGinn, but the Spurs stay on offense.

share

4 minutes: Close! Tieleman's ball goes over the goal, Watkins doesn't get there, and that's largely thanks to Dragusin's heavy breathing. Next, Udogie catches Cash with a high foul.

3 minutes: Villa go on the attack and McGinn sets up Rogers, whose shot is poor and goes miles wide.

share

2 minutes: Villa is always ready to be patient. Sarr is chased and robbed, but the ball is back in Spurs' court before Son is tackled by Matty Cash.

Let's go to the Tottenham Stadium

1 minute: It's Tottenham who press up first and Emi Martinez is forced into a mistake. Tottenham are already flooding the midfield.

Male hug and playful laughter between Ange and Unai, two football men and true.

The teams are in the tunnel, the sound system is at full blast and the players enter the field.

A quick word on James Maddison's dropped word from Ange: “This is exactly what we need today.”. But there is no doubt that Madders will be there today.”

Unai Emery spoke to Sky: ““My first message that I send to everyone is: 'I want to keep breaking our level higher and higher.'” I dream and I want to work to try to make my dreams come true.

“My dream is to achieve the best at the club I am at and the goals we have. Playing in Europe, playing in the Champions League – my dream is to win the Champions League as a coach. Hopefully with Aston Villa.

“The Premier League is very difficult to win because at the moment there are three teams that are playing consistently – Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. But here Leicester won, and when Leicester won the Premier League it was very difficult and maybe even impossible. For this reason it is not impossible in football. You can dream and work hard to achieve it.”

Tottenham full-back Destiny Udogie spoke to Sky: “When you get a win it always changes the mood in the dressing room and boosts confidence. That's why we're happy about this win (against Man City) and are focused on today's game.

“Van de Ven is a big loss for us, but we are all together as a team. Villa are honestly a great team. We are ready to give our best and hopefully win.”

share

Villa skipper John McGinn spoke to Sky: “We have a good record in London. It feels nice to be back here, but the last few wins here we had to work for it. On some of those occasions they probably deserved to win, so we have to be ready today.

“To get the three points, we have to work and run. Tottenham makes you run a lot so we are ready to do that. Spurs are not an easy team as they have had their ups and downs for most of the league this season, but they pose a major threat.

“From our point of view, we are very happy that Van de Ven is missing. We have to give our best, they are a team that will be at the top at the end of the season.”

Ange makes four changes to this Team that lost at Crystal Palace last week when Son returned and James Maddison dropped to the bench. Micky van de Ven is out due to a thigh problem, Radu Dragusin comes into the game. Pape Sarr is ahead of Yves Bissouma and his partners Rodrigo Bentancur. Mikey Moore is on the bench and we hope to see him off the bench again. The last week in Selhurst was no fun for the youngster.

Unai Emery opts for the orthodoxy of Jhon Duran on the benchand Ollie Watkins begins.

preamble

This should be good. With Tottenham beating Manchester City in midweek and Aston Villa generally performing so well, they are two clubs oozing with optimism. However, the optimism at Spurs can easily be broken. And Aston Villa have won three of their five Premier League games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including each of the last two, say the Stattos. Can Unai Emery outsmart Ange-Ball? It's entirely possible, you know. Villa can move up to third place in the table if they win, while Spurs can move up to seventh place.

Kick-off is at 2 p.m., come along.
