Severe storms possible in Dallas-Fort Worth late Sunday and Monday – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

1 minute, 5 seconds Read

Our active weather pattern continues with severe storms possible late Sunday and again Monday.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for northwest North Texas. Some storms in this area can be severe, producing damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall.

Strong to severe storms could develop as early as Sunday afternoon. All types of storms are possible.

More widespread rainfall and thunderstorms will occur on Monday, increasing the risk of severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center upgraded the DFW area to a Level 2 risk on Monday, with a Level 3 risk directly to the east. Damaging winds, hail and even some tornadoes are possible.

Storms will begin developing late morning around midday and continue into the afternoon. The line of storms will move out of North Texas through the evening.

Heavy rain will accompany these storms. Locations along and north of I-20 will see more than 2 to 4 inches of rain possible. The drought-stricken soils should be able to handle moderate amounts of rainfall before runoff begins in earnest.

For this reason, a flood warning has been issued for parts of the area.

Partly sunny, windy and cooler weather returns leading up to Election Day, with high temperatures Tuesday in the mid to upper 60s.
