Maple Leafs vs. Wild prediction, tips and odds for tonight's NHL game

The Toronto Maple Leafs were on the ice for the second straight season as they headed to the Xcel Energy Center to take on the Minnesota Wild in a cross-conference clash.

The NHL odds favor the Wild slightly tonight at -115 on the money line, but the Buds have gotten the best of Minnesota, winning five straight meetings between the two teams, led by William Nylander, who is the focus of my Maple Leafs vs … will stand. Wild predictions.

The Toronto Maple Leafs look to bounce back tonight after losing to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild are red hot with a record of 7-1-2 this year and have won six of their last seven games.

With Toronto playing for the second night in a row, it's sometimes hard to tell which Leafs team will play tonight. Despite a new head coach, there are still inconsistencies in this group. Therefore, I expect a more stable market in the betting world by making a shot as the bet of the evening.

The Buds rank fifth in the NHL in shots per game (32.3) and have peppered opposing goaltenders with more than 30 shots on net in five straight games. One of the team's leaders in this department is William Nylander, who is second on the team with 39 shots this season and has averaged 3.8 shots per game in his last 10 appearances.

This is largely due to Craig Berube using the experienced winger. Last year, Nylander started 65% of his appearances in the offensive zone. That number has increased to 70% this year, allowing him and his veteran linemates to focus primarily on the offensive side of the puck.

Nylanders' shooting power is set at 3.5 and pays plus money, which feels like a solid value considering he's gone over the number in two straight games and in five of his last eight games.

Additionally, the Swedish winger has been a thorn in the Wild's side of late. He scored five goals and eight points in the last four meetings between the two clubs and averaged 3.5 shots on goal against Minnesota over his career.

After he didn't get on the scoresheet last night, I expect him to try to make amends.

I'll stick with the Nylander theme and expect him to score. He leads the team with eight goals this year and has been a threat against Minnesota with five goals in the last four games between the two clubs.

Finally, we end the game by scoring the alternative over of 4.5 wickets tonight. The Leafs are heading into the second half of a back-to-back game and things could get sloppy. Additionally, both teams combine to average 6.3 goals per game and have scored a total of 5+ goals in 18 of their last 20 games.
