Sources – Steelers are eyeing WRs as the NFL trade deadline approaches

In addition to the flood of wide receiver transactions that the NFL has already experienced in recent weeks, there was another one in the pipeline.

The Steelers were in the process of pushing through a deal for Christian Kirk, and league sources told ESPN that there was a realistic chance the Jaguars wide receiver would end up in Pittsburgh until he broke his collarbone last Sunday.

Pittsburgh's hopes of improving its receiving corps were dashed, at least temporarily. But the Steelers aren't giving up, a league source told ESPN.

According to league sources, the Steelers made calls ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline at 4 p.m. ET and evaluated all available wide receivers, including Mike Williams of the Jets and Adam Thielen of the Panthers.

The Steelers will continue to push and try to improve heading into the deadline, but they are far from the only team looking to position themselves better for the second half of the season.

• The Lions continue to call pass rushers and have spoken to the Browns about former Pro Bowl defensive end Za'Darius Smith, who sources say has played in the NFC North for both the Packers and Vikings.

• The Falcons have also been aggressive in making pass rush calls and are expected to finalize a potential deal for Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, according to sources.

The surprising Cardinals, who tied for first place in the NFC West on Sunday, are also looking into acquiring pass rushers like Ojulari.

• Another pass rusher who could be available is Calais Campbell, who the Dolphins have received inquiries about, according to league sources.

If the Dolphins don't win on Sunday in Buffalo, sources say they might be more open to trading Campbell to a contending team.

• The Saints have received calls about Marshon Lattimore, according to league sources. One of the potential hurdles to a deal is Lattimore's health, sources said.

The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback won't play against the Panthers on Sunday, but that hasn't stopped teams from calling for him, including the two-time defending champion Chiefs.

• The Chiefs have already traded for DeAndre Hopkins and Joshua Uche, but some sources around the league believe Kansas City could push for another move, whether it's Lattimore or another player.

The Chiefs host the Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football” and are prepared to act quickly as the trade deadline begins just hours after their game.

• One team that could continue to trade players is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have already traded defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seahawks and offensive tackle Cam Robinson to the Vikings and are also working on a possible trade for Kirk.

The Jaguars will continue to make calls and entertaining offers, and other players who could draw interest include five-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff.

• This week's big trade involved the Carolina Panthers sending wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Ravens. Johnson will make his Baltimore debut on Sunday against the Broncos, but it turns out he's already feeling right at home with fellow Ravens wide receiver Nelson Agholor.

Both Agholor and Johnson are from Tampa, Florida, and have been close for years. Although the age difference between them is three years (Agholor is 31 and Johnson is 28), the receivers met during their teenage years through youth sports and attended high schools on opposite sides of town.

Since then, they have remained close and train together even in the off-season. After Johnson was transferred to Baltimore this week, he even stayed with Agholor.

Now the Ravens, Chiefs, Falcons, Cardinals and others will look to add more players by Tuesday's deadline. What happens in Sunday's games could also have an impact on who buys and who sells, but there is expected to be a final flurry of moves before the deadline.
