Hudson Fire: A wildfire in Bastrop County prompts evacuations estimated at 400 acres

A wildfire east of Bastrop has prompted evacuations in the area.

The Texas A&M Forest Service initially reported the Hudson Fire at 50 acres, but at the latest report it has grown to 400 acres. As of 10pm on November 3rd, it is currently 15% contained.

According to the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management, the fire spread to Park Road C around 3:25 p.m.

Evacuations for residents are underway in several areas, including:

  • 400 block of Gotier Trace Road to Alum Creek
  • SH 71 at Alum Creek north to Gotier Trace Road
  • Park Road 1C between Alum Creek and Cottletown

Park Road C and Gotier Trace Road were closed. According to FOX 7 Austin's Lauren Rangel, 40 to 50 people have been evacuated so far.

Displaced residents without a place to go can go to the Smithville Recreation Center at 106 Royston Street at 6:30 p.m

Bastrop County Animal Services has a temporary shelter for dogs, cats and other small animals at Mayfest Park. The Bastrop County Agrilife Extension also coordinates livestock support efforts in Mayfield Park.

BCOEM said the fire was driven by strong southerly winds. Emergency services are currently expected to be on site throughout the night.

According to TFS, fire activity remains active and trees are being burned. As of 6:30 p.m. Firefighters are working to secure the right flank of the fire.

BCOEM says heavy equipment was working to create containment lines along the southern portion of the fire. Fire engines on site also assisted in the creation of containment lines while protecting at-risk structures.

For the safety of emergency responders, everyone is advised to avoid the area.
