USMNT star defender provides crucial assist in Premier League against Brentford

Fulham picked up a last-gasp win at home to Brentford, with USA Men's National Team defender Antonee Robinson providing the game-winning assist.

The 27-year-old Robinson achieved his best performance of the season with 68 passes (88% completion), attempted all four dribbles, managed ten touches of the ball in the Brentford penalty area and created three chances for his team. His most important touch of the game came late in stoppage time.

Robinson received the ball outside Brentford's penalty area and lured three defenders to him, giving him the chance to score the winner. Robinson sent a wonderful cross towards the penalty spot which Harry Wilson headed in to bury the winner at the near post. The goal sent Craven Cottage into a frenzy.

It was Wilson's second goal of the game, having equalized with an incredible finish just five minutes earlier. The win catapulted Fulham to ninth place in the Premier League table with 15 points from 10 games. The composure Robinson displayed in that moment was crucial for the Cottagers to defeat one of England's most exciting and organized teams.

For USMNT fans, it cannot be underestimated how important Robinson is to Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the future. Wilson will dominate the super sub headlines at the end of the day, but Robinson's performance bodes well for the future as a World Cup on home soil grows ever closer.

Robinson has started all 10 games for Fulham so far this season, providing three assists and earning an average rating of 7.32, according to Fotmob. The combination of Robinson and Christian Pulisic on the left is a formula that Pochettino can not only develop, but hopefully use for the future.
