Severe weather in Chicago: Heavy rain, gusty winds expected Monday, Election Day 2024, low severe threat in the region

CHICAGO (WLS) – There is an AccuWeather Warning for Monday evening for a chance of heavy rain and gusty winds. There is also a very small risk of severe storms.

Rainfall was expected to weaken for most of the area by midday Monday. There are still gusty winds and mild temperatures, ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Larry Mowry said.

Heavy rain is possible on Monday evening, a few thunderstorms and wind speeds of over 72 km/h are possible. There is a slight risk of severe storms, with wind being the main threat.

There is a level 1 risk of severe weather in the far southwest suburbs.

Heavy rain will begin after 6pm, with the heaviest rain expected to occur between 8pm and 2am

1 to 5 centimeters of rain is possible in some areas. Higher amounts are also possible, which can lead to flooding.

Heavy rain is possible again from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday, election day, there may be repeated showers with mild temperatures.

The chance of a severe storm is low Tuesday, with gusty winds and a brief tornado east of Chicago.

Rain will be mostly gone from the area by 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
